yeah that's a nigerian lapradei.

Can you post your PBB for comparison too?

From the looks of it, I may have to have a second opinion from my friend directly. I saw his invoice and it showed PBB on the order. It's from a reputable supplier I know.

I paid PBB price and did not get a PBB. :irked: I wonder if my other 2 piece are Laps too. :( I try to get photos of them asap.

Can we see better photos of these fish in question ?

Here are some photos taken earlier. There is a mixture of PBB and Nigerian Lap. I beleive there is no point to add other variants in the tank as they are very easy to tell them apart

comparing them to my 3 PBB, I still say Lapradei. I see 1 that has possibilities, but not sure.

But Hopefully Toyin, will confirm for you.

That's what I am hoping. They all looks the same to me when I catch them up. The only difference i see is the fin count and the slight colour contrast.

He is a dealer who is very experience. If he can't confirm, I dun think anyone can unless there is another more experience person than him.

It would be a grat learning lesson for many of us who intend to buy them.

Yea, I think I see one too, the 3rd one from the left in pic 1:) However, it has only 15 finlets, from what I've counted:(

4th pic is a PBB. The rest are Nigerian laps. I had my former Nigerian PBB with 15 finlets. This is where the confusion start when the finlets is somewhere 14-15. 16+ finlets then sureball is a PBB. However few shipment of Nigerian laps before have 16 finlets so that was a shocked when I first saw them. Trying to take pics but my bichirs just pile up together.

Most of the PBB we have imported so far as well as those i have seen pictures usually have 15-16 dorsal finlets. Some fish may have 17 dorsal finlets but this is not too common......unless of course they are captive raised fish that are selectively bred for this.
Regarding PBL, most of the ones i have seen have 13-14 dorsal finlets. 15 is possible but less common. Most have 13.

I think we need to be clear on this. Dorsal finlets are distinct, each with clearly defined dorsal spines. Spines attached to, or split off of the tail do not count toward the total dorsal finlet count.
