pea pebbles? yes or no?

I use pea gravel in one of my tanks. It gives me a high KH and GH reading. Great for African cichlids, not so great for SA cichlids.

Which kind were you planning?

I was dumbfounded at how much I had to rinse that stuff. You probably didn't rinse it enough.

thanks guys, and yes i was going to go with SA chichlids so should i just cut my losses and save up for some sand?

I use pea gravel in all of my tanks....Can't beat the price from lowes. THEIR PLAY SAND WORKS WONDERS TOO!!!!.. I boil the gravel before rinsing it. This removes the dust and dirt. It took me about 1 1/2 days for the cloudyness to clear up(depends on how much you rinse it).

You're in Michigan. You wouldn't notice hardness there, would you?

I use pea gravel in all my tanks. Much much more cost effective than pet store fish tank gravel. Especialy when you have as many tanks as I do. It also looks more natural than the bright colors from the pet store.

No not really. We have pretty hard water here as well as a high ph
