I recently asked this same question in the general forum but I don't think my title drew enough attention to it - not one response:

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241351

I am getting a 415 tank and a 360 tank next week when I move. Assuming it doesn't take me forever to build the stands to match the kitchen, I should be moving all my fish within a month.

The link to the other thread describes the dimensions and the stock of my misc. monsters tank. My SA tank has 3 adult Orangeheads, 10 juvy orangeheads, 3 s. leucosticta, a giant s. red lip (that'll be getting 3 giant friends in 2 weeks), and l. dorsigera. Obviously I'd be in the market for more large eartheaters like some adult Altifrons and/or whatever else I can find, and will be adding some heros and more Uaru (maybe even an orange one). If I can be sure the black aros won't eat the juvenile Orangeheads, I'll put them in there too (and remove the dorsigera of course).

So the question - since I love these peaceful south americans, should I make them the feature fish in the 415, which will be centered in the room with all 4 sides viewable? Or would a 96x24 footprint be enough for them, leaving me free to use the wider tank with the center overflow for the larger fish - that overflow will break up line of sight and really help with aggression. But then again, nearly doubling the footprint would help with that too.

There's an argument to be made for both options. All the fish get a 300% water upgrade either way. But should I make the 96x24x36 the SA tank or the 96x32x31?

Dang! What a nice problem to have!

I guess it depends on what large/aggressive fish you plan to keep, and how badly you want them. If they can be happy in the 96x24, I'd set up the 96x32 as your community for the apparent reasons. Your future aro will also (eventually) appreciate the room to turn around.

Dave~

2 things...

1) I hate you....

2) Put the arro in the wider tank, IMHO....Turning Radius, as stated will be best, long term, and you will not want to move anything, once you are done.

I see your looking at that Orange Uaru on the GCCA? Good Choice....I am Looking for some Redlips myself....

Pics are a must, if you need some help let me know, I know we have had issue hitting on our schedueles, but I can work out time to help a local brother! Going to the Classic?

I already bought Pete's trio of redlips. Not that often you can find a bunch of larger ones.

Pretty sure the aros will be in the wide tank either way - they may live with the eartheaters though. Right now they're 12" and the geos wouldn't be in danger.

At first I was trying to decide between the two tanks, but the room is so big and the price of the tall one so good that I figured I might as well just get both. In the original scenario the eartheaters were going to move up slightly to a 72x18 tank... not too big an upgrade.

Anyway, the planned stock for the more aggressive one is pretty much already set - they're crowded in to the smaller tank right now with three aros and the Uaru as well. I suppose I'd end up adding more dats over time and maybe an oddball here and there but not too many more fish.

96x24 is plenty of footprint for the eartheaters but the height is the thing that has me wondering. 36" tall leaves a good 2 feet of space that the geos won't fill. I guess the Uarus would be up there sometimes though... never had sevs so I don't know where they hang out. But then the Aros would have less space. I can envision them swimming laps around the center OF in the bigger tank and being really happy. Maybe I could just keep one in with the SAs in the 360 and two in the bigger one. They're blacks so just having a pair wouldn't cause problems the way silvers would.

Another thing to consider is that the 360 will be against a wall and I'll put a black background on it. If one group of fish will look better against that than the other, that'd help decide too.

Congrats Bro....

You beat me to Peter's Trio.....Ill still send him an email, just in case he has more then the 3.....

That tank is gonna rock!
