Recently I picked up my first Cichla, a Kelberi. For any one keeping this combination, do you typically have aggression between the two? The Kel is about 7-8" and it appears that he's picking fights with the Dats, big and small. Is this the way it is? Or is this only because he's new to their tank?

I always have some agression for the first week or so with new semi-agressive fish. Worst case scenario ride it out if things arent looking too ugly.

Yea that's the plan as of now. This is the first time I'm seeing it and I'm sure most of the dats can handle themselves. I was just curious what some of the Cichla keepers experiences were.

Ive kept cichla w/ tons of dats.
Once the dats started puttn on some size they would nip fins...
SO i ditched all my dats for the nippn....and I got bored of em.

Most of my dats are the same size and bigger. The Kel is actually the dominant one right now lol. My dats are acting like girl dogs right now, to use your phrase.

I've seen many people with that combo but don't know if they pick on each other. I hope it works for you. Love to try it one day.

My tigers big and small show no aggression towards my bass 8.5 and 7 inch . But its only been 2 weeks

Well right now the bass is showing aggression towards the Dats. Flaring his gills and everything. The dats are just taking it in stride and swimming away

All fish have different temperament, just keep a close eye on all of them and if it works, great, if it doesn't, make necessary adjustments
