Hey fish folk. I've got 2 big peacock bass in my tank with a Jardini and a hystrix stingray. I've always loved native perch here. I've been offered a couple of 12 inch perch. They've been in a tropical tank since babies so are used to the warmer water. What I want to know is if perch and bass will tolerate each other or will it be chaos? I'd also love to see any pictures of big perch in an aquarium and any tips on keeping UK Perch.
Thank you.

How big is your tank? Perch are shoaling fish so I am not sure keeping just one will work.

Also temperature tolerance is not a matter of whether the fish was raised in warm water or not. A lot of fish are born in the warm spring then grow rapidly before their first winter. Being born in warm weather does not turn them into fish that can live in tropical conditions year round.

The problem occurs when they are adults and are missing a cool down period, it's not natural for them to be running at max metabolism for years on end. There is a lot of data on this subject when it comes to goldfish. If you keep them warm for the first year you will grow them quickly, but if you continue to keep them warm you will significantly reduce their life span.

I would suspect this perch is the same way.

Hopefully someone who really knows can chime in though.

esoxlucius esoxlucius has them.
