ive got 4 2" peacock bass in my 10gallon planted growout tank. Friday I noticed a small white speck on the tail of the smaller fish, the battle begins. Sunday, I've returned from vacation and there are no signs of ich on the actual fish, but they are twitching and rubbing against plants, rocks, etc. I've added "around" 5-6 tablespoons of salt to the aquarium, and raised the temp from 81 to 87.

Should i continue to do 30% water changes 3x a week while adding salt, or should i stop the water changes for the next 10 days and just wait it out.

the joys of peacock bass not wanting to eat pellets

any comments welcome, if you think i should add more salt, raise the temp more. just let me know.

You may have too much salt causing irritation. Do a WC to reduce the salinity. Keep the temp at 87. Watch the next few days because of the life cycle of ich.

I was curious about the salt ratio, i've seen about 5 different ratios throughout the stickys and peoples posts. some say 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons, others say 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon.

i figure 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons.

so i've got about 15-20 teaspoons in there. :X

when I do my 30% water change on tuesday, should i exclude the salt?

there still eating like pigs, still no visual signs of ick. but they continue to twitch and rub against objects. Water is in perfect condition, and with all the live plants nitrates remain under 10.
I'm wondering if the ghost shrimp are what caused this, all my feeders come from my girls koi breeding farm ( the babys that are deformed, and ugly i get for free ) so they can't be the cause.

10gallon aquarium, aqua clear hob filter ( 10-40 gallons ), air stone, planted tank.

monday, day 3 after initial signs of ick.

this is more of a journal than a help thread at this point.

tuesday:

no twitching or rubbing, but there is a super small sized dot on the tail of one of the fish. Can;t tell if its spangling or ich itself. will continue to treat the tank untill thursday than drop the temperature down to 84 and do a 50% w/c.
will be starting a growout thread soone pics will be updated monthly

cross this out, checked on the fish earlier, 2-4 white spots on each fish. hardly noticable unless your face is up to the glass. doing a 30% waterchange tomorrow, adding salt to the 3 gallons i'll be taking out, as well as melchaite green.
no more live feeders once i run out, unless quarintined for 2 weeks

wend, looking worse, smaller of the fish is fading in color. Did the water change today, caused them to be very agressive towards eachother :D. starting to think this is velvet rather than ich. will be treating with the melchaite green untill monday. if no improvement or fish worsen, i'm adding carbon and taking the current meds out and using the good stuff.

Bad idea to use salt and malachite together. Will cause them to drop their slime coat.

ive been using it for the past 3 days now. what would you suggest than, because the salt and heat treatment has shown no signs of improvement. they are still very active and eating.

im gona shoot you a pm

added activated carbon to the aquarium over night, to take out the meds. did a 50% w.c the next day. its in the 50*'s outside so the temperature of the aquarium dropped to 84, but as of today there is no ich on the fish. will continue the salt and heat treatment for the next week to make sure its over, or if theres going to be another out brake.
