Ive heard the peacock bass in miami are hybrids of tems/mono. But then ive heard there ocell's. What are the bass in miami. I saw a thread on here with some of that info a long time ago but i cant find it now. this is interesting as well http://www.acuteangling.com/Reference/CLOFFSCA.html

The ones i catch look like tems, but then some have no 3 bars and look like ocell's or monos. Ive once in awhile seen one that resembles a orino. Is it just one big hybrid mix down here ?

they're all florida occels....i think they did try to add tems and orinos but they couldnt handle the "colder" temps.

There are a few lakes that have Tems in them. The canals are pretty much just ocells (give or take what has been introduced from aquariums). The shops around the Orlando area tend to refer to them as Florida Hybrids since they aren't exactly pure anymore.

If you don't mind, I'd like to get a few Tems from you when I'm down that way. I got some from Matt several years ago. He knows which lakes have them, but I think he is still in the Philippines.

i doubt they are tems...i have tems in my tank and they grow fast and large...mine reached 18" in less than a year and they do not like the cold...i had to use heaters last month...

if they were tems in the canals of Miami, they would get huge with all the food in our waters...I'm sure some lakes/ponds have them :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: but i doubt in the canals or large community lakes...

most are occel and mono hybrids but i've seen some that would make an orino and azul look ugly in our waters...we do have some real nice looking hybrids :)

I thought 1 and 2 were tems.. Idk what 3 and 4 are i say hybrid tem/occ

I love the spotting on 1 & 2. I've seen them before but I don't recall their names. I've seen them mislabeled as tems quite frequently too. They almost have the right spotting (tems tend to have them more elongated), and the body shape is right. The ones I got from Matt were brown rather than green. The ocells that I got from him greened up when they were adults.

I hope you kept #3. He looks amazing.

I'll send you a pm in a minute. At least I'll try... I haven't sent or received a pm since setting it to ultra private. (Too many of the same noob questions all the time.)

Yep, I just saw that. It looks like they might be in the middle of the phase change.
