To retain them alive requires a collecting permit. Otherwise, they fall into the same category as any other tackle-caught species in that they cannot be retained alive. Also be aware that the state promotes the killing of all non-native invasive species upon capture. Cichla do not fall under this promotion due to being a stocked species for the sport-fishing industry. Therefore, catch-and-release is allowable for Cichla.
