Peacock bass keep dying....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you sure aint the jd killing/stressing them out? all the little cichla i raised out. I had them at high temp. no issues. Look like they stop eating and then turn black and start breathing hard?
JD isn't aggressive toward anyone. She's doesn't eat feeders either. The peacocks were eating just fine up until they got sick. I've even taken the steps to seperate them and monitored them but they just end up dying. Originally I had them in a 29 gallon before moving them to the 125 but I had 2 in get sick in the 29 gallon too.

What is your water temp? Keep small bass, under 6" or so in hot water, 85 degrees is good. I would think it is the JD stressing them out but no way to be sure without watching the tank. When that size they need hot water and LOTS of food, they grow fast and once they hit 8" or so they become bullet proof. If your water parameters are what you are saying they are, it has to be related to stress and small bass stress very easily. I would separate them from the JD and try doing a 40% water change twice a week and see if that helps.

I had the temp ar 82-83 didn't want it too high since I had other fish in it too. But my last peacock died. I think I'm done with peacocks for the time being. I can't just find it in my heart and in my wallet to just be let down again. Maybe I'll try the peacocks out again when I have the space to have a decent size tabk specific to them. But right now I just can't bare to lose another peacock. Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys. Hope I didn't waste anyone's time.
