Peacock Bass Lip Growth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
London's alright. No fish market, the good stuff is expensive. Anyway, the bump is still there but hasn't grown too much. It seems to irritate the bass a bit. Otherwise perfect health. Plenty of tank maintenance.

Bump has grown a bit, and there's a portion of it the sticks outside of her mouth when she closes it, it's red. New pic.

Oh and she hasn't eaten for a week. Spits 1 or 2 pieces of shrimp back out, then doesn't have any interest. This could be attributed to a bit of a war between it and my new id shark. She goes all black when it's around and sulks a lot, definitely the aggressor because she sneaks up behind it to bully it. My clown knife in the tank is a defender and stops her from bullying by bullying her, so she's going through a rough patch.

As of Sunday if I don't get a substantial lead I will be sanitizing a table, cutting board, small fillet knife, and a couple pairs of pliers which are going to be used to pry the lips of the bass open steady while I excavate to bump hopefully without tearing his lip. I know I will probably be advised against this, but I don't see it being any different turn throwing a worm onto a hook and catching and reeling in a bass with a hook, removing it, then safely reintroducing the bass. I need to get all of the bump without him moving so I'll have to hold him, but they're tough and I'm good with a knife so I should get him back into water quick. Sorry but at this point I don't have any clue as to any other options. Will video tape likely. Hope it won't grow back. Any last minute suggestions about the procedure or otherwise?

Operation successful. Have video. Bass is doing great. Hope it doesn't grow back, may need to recapture to get the portion that started to effect it's top lip, what a strong fish.

I personally would have cut it to if it was inferring with eating and causing more harm then good...IE rubbing raw the top part of the lip. She should be fine. Great work on your bass.

Put more salt may help to clear the lump. Add bit by bit everyday. The fish can take alot of salt over here.

Now there are white sores covering my bass's face. Spreading quick. Some of them have a bit if shredded skin, they look like blisters. Happened shortly after surgery unfortunately, he adjusted greatly in every other regard, appetite still wasn't 100% though. Tried general cure by API. Only around his head, and looks like a bit of fin rot. I was quite gentle with him, only thing I can think of is some of what I cut off his lip spread to other parts. He did flop around a bit on the paper towel, he's a big fish. Oh and all my other fish are fine.
