After watching a video clip on youtube of people and hatcheries using a fish feeder (which looks just like the a badminton shuttlecock) to slowly feed either live tubifex or blood worms to their juveniles, I adopted it and use a small 2 inch mesh net which I put the worms in and allows them to slowly wiggle through. This will get the fish's attention and they will only eat the worms that fall off of the net at first, but when they get accustomed to the presence of the net they will begin to start hitting it and ripping worms from it (took me only a week). By then the fish will not be afraid to hit stuff floating on the surface, mine even eat flakes and they are just at 2.5 inches. Warmer temperatures also get them more aggressive so check that as well. Mine is at 86-88 F.
