Hi I'm new to Monster Aquaria.
I have had fish for like 4 years and have really gotten in to it lately. I've had cichlids like green terrors, etc.
So basically I love peacock bass and want to try them out.

What tips and advice could you guys give me? I'm open to anything like species, food, water quality, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Buy already pellet trained. Some are hard to pellet train.

Do regular water changes or their eyes and gills will infected

Orinos are really agressive
Temensis grow the fastes
Kelberi, azuls, pleizonas are expensive but beautiful
Most of the pbass in the pet store labeled " peacock bass " or "lukinani" are ocellaris, maybe monos if your lucky
Ummm they eat better in schools so if get small ones you should get several.

water highly airated..temp 86-87 for juvies under 8". Wc's alteast 2x a week. Filtration that would be considered overkill. Like a 10x turnover rate or more.

Ok my grow out tank (I will get small ones) is a 55 and I have a up to 80 fluval on. Then a 135 for when they get bigger.

55g is a great tank til they hit 5" or so. Then onto the 135g til about 10-12" at the most. Then is a 180g minimum. With ur tank sizes I'd start with some kelberi. They don't get super massive right away and they're stunning. They can be spendy but they are gorgeous! Lots of nice ones to be had at the moment. Mark at discus origins has some Bahia kelberi now at a steal...only $50ea.

Stay away from live foods.
They eat/train better in groups of 3 or more.
Like most fish. They do better in groups of 3 or more.
Stay on top of your water changes.
Keep your water warm...86-87...highly airated.
Ask more questions if you have them.
Buy quality.

This is all good advice, but keeping the water temps in the upper 80s is not a requirement. They do just fine in the upper 70s as well if you have any other stock that can't handle those temps. Very cool fish if you can give them the space they need, they move like lightning... but everyone is stressing pellet training for a reason. Get them going on them early or they will resist the switch from live.
