Peacock Cichlid babies?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So thought I would drop in a quick update...no new pictures but there is only one fry left. Not sure what happened to the 5 or so others, must have died somehow.

So the fry hide constantly all the time, there were days where I was not even sure if there was one alive still. So I would move a few things till I saw it scurry away. Finally in the last few days it has started peeping out, last night was the fist time it actually came out for feeding. I have been feed some crushed up flake food, it is still tiny, less than 1/2" still or just at 1/2". It is looking good though, swimming around and starting to get a little more bold to come out and say hello.

I am wondering how big it should be before I can put it in the 55g without worry about the other peacocks eating it? Will they even go after it at all?

Should I be feeding crushed up pellet food over flake food? Will this make a big difference?

I am hoping to get some pics soon...

bumpity bump

Mainly I am wondering how big the fry should be before going back into the big tank? Will the peacocks go after the little one or will it be okay?

So next time they hopefully breed again, would it be possible to leave the mother and babies in the big tank if it is full of only peacocks? Will they protect them enough for them to survive? Obviously they will need lots of hiding spots, etc, but is it possible that I can leave them all together? Mommy, babies and the rest of the peacock crew?

It's possible, but I doubt you'll have a great survival rate. I'd have a 10 gal setup, running and waiting for the next time, and when you see mom holding move her quickly and gently to the 10.

Congrat's your little girl has spawned, gramps.

Haha gramps, thats a new one. I am hoping to get a second batch soon, looks like the male has done a new nest (had to reorganize the tank) nothing yet...I am keeping a better eye out this time though!
