its an african cichlid, from lake malawi maybe I am not sure. try posting this in the african rift lake cichlid section.

Thes are a great choice for first time african cichlid keepers. Very colourful and only reach 4-5". ish. They shouldnt be too expensive.

peacocks get a bit bigger than 4-5" usually get to about 6" and sometimes 7" Mbunas are the other ones which get to around 5" i keep them atm. peacocks need minimum of 55g and are kept with haps and some of the more aggressive malwian Mbunas. they are very colourful and can be very aggressive.

here is a website which tells you a bit more.

Ok, well i picked two up, mine look like the first pick you have there!

They are less aggressive than the mbuna in my opinion. They do not do so well in the mbuna tank, but great in my tang tank... They can get big I have one that is pushing 6 1/2. Others that are 3-4 and are just starting to show color... They are great, and I would suggest not getting any females in the mix with different types of peacocks, since they can cross breed...

Peacocks are actually the least aggressive from lake Malawi.

Looks like you have Ruby Peacocks.

I have bred peacocks for 9 years now and disagree with alot in this thread. Peacocks for the most part are very peaceful. The only sp. that can be testy are the Stuartgranti types, and of course the line bred albino's. You also very rarely see an Aulonocara 6", most of mine are 4" but they are wild caught. Higher protien food make them grow larger of course. You can put any of the Pseuo. or Met. species with a peacock and the peacock will back down or be killed. They are not mean by nature. I hope this helps and clears some things up.
