My eel is kept with small cichlids and a few tetras and my question is could the eel be eating the tetras? I have never seen him eat anthing at all as he rarely comes out from beneth the sand. I put in frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp so he could be eating it but a few of my neon tetras has disapeared and i saw my eel today and he is rather fat?

It's a definate possibility. He's probably slurping them up while they are laying around sleeping at night. How big is he?

I've never known a Peacock to eat live fish... How long have you had him? A few weeks?

Fish can be opportunistic when it comes to food. If a prey fits their mouth, then you'll have to accept that they will attempt to hunt down the rest.

maybe its a striped peacock eel? its different from the common peacock eel. they rather get big i mean 25 inch big.

If its an eel it will eat live.

I have a peacock eel and he doesnt bother or eat any of my other fish in the tank.. But im sure if the neons are big enough to fit in his mouth then he will eat them.

Thanks for the replies! The eel is only about 9inches tops and the neons are pretty small under a inch. Ive had him for almost a year with about the same fish but im not to worried about it as the neons and other tetras just hang out in my grow out tank for my cichlids but they are all roughly a inch to a inch and a half but was curious to see if the eel is picking them off.

Would a peacock eel eat live fish : Mabye if it was hungry

COULD a peacock eel eat live fish : NO not unless they were fry peacock eels have very small mouths even a 9'' peacock eels would only eat a tiny fish it could mabye choak down guppy but tetras are safe

What other fish are being kept with the tetras ?
