any tips on what to feed them or how when they are shy?
I feed mine ghost shrimp, brine shrimp, and blood worms.. being shy, I believe is part of there personality...
You won't find to many eel owners thay say there eel is always out and about swimming in the tank..

...do they do better in groups? Should I get another few?
I really don't think they care about groups.. but honestly I don't know...

I'm leaving for Vegas Tuesday AM, so I'll go get him some ghost shrimp to eat before that.

at that size.. bloodworms, and blackworms.. as for your inhabitants.. eventually your eel and your crayfish will have it out. eels are invertibrate eaters.. so eventually it will pick at your cray if the cray doesn't decide to eat it first. this happens time and again with people.. as for spiney eels.. peacocks don't tolerate others of their same species very well unless in a large tank. as for getting it more outgoing.. time, and patience will help. as will offering it food from your hand. Once it associates you with food it will come out everytime it sees you and beg like a dog. But this can be as time consumeing as trying to teach a real puppy.

Thanks, I'm excited for when he's to the stage that he is able to be seen...the old lady keeps accusing me of not buying an eel and using the money for nefarious purposes. At 10 dollars the debate is about "annoyed" level. As for the Cray...boy this cray is stinkin' huge...he's a good 6" and he skin is uncommonly thick...he also is so slow and dumb that I don't think he could reciprocate actual harm to any living creature...I have to hand feed him...and he often drops his food and needs it "redirected" to him....size comparison the cray is much larger than the eel.
