My large male 6" OB peacock died today. The days be fore he was fine swimming around and everything. Only thing I noticed was in his breathing his mouth would open up very wide. And I saw him shaking his head.

The only thing I can think off is that one of my female peacocks was holding and spit all the fry out in the main tank and they all got snacked on. Could he of been choking on the fry? As all my other fish are perfectly normal.

No didn't look like bloat. And yea I'm pretty sure there is a good amount of oxygen in the tank as I keep my water level a bit lower than the lid so the filter output makes bubbles. Also all the other fish are breathing normally.

It could be.

How often do you do water changes ? Did you test the water ?

Did you check his throat ? Since he died, it would be very easy to check.

No I didn't check his mouth I never really thought of that. And I don't have a full test kit, haven't been able to get out and buy one. But pH and hardness are good. I do 50% WC every weekend. I don't know what it was because all the other fish are fine. If it was bacteria wouldn't it of probably spread?

Well - if you thought he choked, you should have checked.

How do you know the pH, etc, are good, if you haven't checked? Since you do not have a test kit, when is the last time you checked ?

I only have some stuff to check like pH and water hardness. Havent check other things in a while
