Peacocks - are these the same

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the same fish may have multiple "common" names but if the latin name is different it's safe to assume its a different fish.

side note. I had males of both in a show tank. The Aulonocara Baenschi was dominate, and the Marleri island would not color up.

Thanks Mike, this is why I was asking. I was considering getting some from Notoriousway but am trying to grow them for my all male tank and this is what I was afraid would happen. I might still try it but thats why I was asking

Now it depends on the size. If they are about the same size you will get color in both, if you have a huge male and a bunch of smaller males of another type, that is different.

Unfortunately, this is the case with lots of peacocks and haps. If they look similar theres a chance one will make the other less dominate and less colorful but this can sometimes be fixed by overstocking.

That is what he was sold as...Just wanted to make sure I was calling him the right thing. I may start another thread though just to see.

I always heard that Sunshine Peacocks don't have yellow on their body, but Yellow Regals do. Thats the only difference I can see

The differences that I can tell is...

Aulonocara Baenschi tends to have a more downward curved nose/mouth.

Aulonocara Stuartgranti Maleri Island has brighter almost neon yellow color and the Aulonocara Baenschi is more of a deep sunflower color.

Some time its hard to tell the difference, I have seen some Aulonocara Baenschi that I would sware were Aulonocara Stuartgranti Maler.

BINGO! :headbang2

Aulonocara Stuartgranti Maleri Island would be my guess.

If you yourself don't actually know what it is start a ID thread and see what people say because I'm not 100% positive on what it is.

Maleri x 2
