Really? How many african cichlids would you recommend to cut down on agression in a 55?

And what % water changes are you guys doing and how frequently for that kind of a bio load?

You could actually keep more than 5-6 Africans in a 55. I've done it and so have others. Just depends on how much work you want to invest and what kind of look you want. With 5-6, you could still have aggression issues.

Don't get me wrong, I crowd the hell out of tanks. But I also have 30 tanks that I can swap around fish if they don't work out. I try not to tell folks to put fish in a tank that will inevitably out grow the setup within a year.

You definitely can put more than 5-6 peacocks in a 55.... when they're small. I have a bunch of male peacocks in the 5" to 6"range. More than 5-6 adult males in a 55 no es bueno.

To the OP, I change 50-75% of the water on my African tanks weekly.

yeah, I'm talking longer term here. This isn't a grow out tank. I'm talking how many full grown adult male peacocks in a 55 gal single species tank.

Sounds like 5-6 is about right in a well planted tank.

I have a huge 11" JD now with 2 6" peacocks, and I wouldnt recommend it. Those peacocks pick on eachother, and the Jack, and he doesnt do too much to defend himself. He's too big and bulky and the peacocks are too fast. The one just picks on him for fun, I think. Would like to get rid of the meaner peacock, but I love him.... anyway, that setup is not particularly working out for me.....
If you ever want to get rid of your peacock let me know. Im just outside of Kent.
