Hey all I am new to African cichlids but I done some research on peacocks via MFK and I want to say thanks for all the info it has really helped me.

So big news is my peacocks mated! I have a male sunshine and three unknown females.

I wish I had a camera to show what my female looks like. Shes sweet. Ive never breed mouthbrooders and this experience is going to be awesome.

I got a 10 gallon tank set up for the babies. How long does it take the babies to be born. I dont want to strip them until they can free swim.

Tips welcome. Thanks again.

Ok man thanks for the info.
Im not going to be giving any away. I have a 100gallon tank that I plan to stock from this breeding project. Not out to sell out to GROW!

every time my africans breed i just get the fry out when i see them swimming in the rocks, there is a high mortallity rate in them i had also a ruben red male and a sunshine female breed of the brood i have only 2 for sure peacock babies left i can wait to see what they look like.

Keep in mind that if the fry are hybrids they may not get much color. Try to find someone who can sell you some confirmed female sunshines. At least you will know what your grownup fish will look like.

Update. . . .

The female was being chased around badly last night from the male. I added some more rocks for hiding spots but I think she may have spit out the eggs. Her throat doesnt look extended anymore . . . .

I guess now I can get some sunshine females atleast. Thanks for the help and info all.

I have no idea if anyone is reading this thread, but I borrowed a camera from a friend and today after school Im going to post some pics. One of the tank and a couple of the residents. Hope everyone is having a good day!

Can anyone id both of these fishes?
I think my male is a Sunshine Peacock but unsure.
I have no idea what kind of fish the dark brown one is.

Hey Mike thanks for the heads up on the indy cichlid club.

Yeah Ive searched a field guide in bracken library for the cichlid id and I think that she might be a rubin red? Anyone ever had a rubin red female peacock that could back this up?
