Peacocks Mated

fewell part of that trouble is that rubin reds are a linebreed fish. Could it be a ruby red female? Possible, but could it be a few other females as well? Yes....I have seen ruby reds that are lighter as well.
 
the male looks like a sunshine. However with female peacocks it can be impossible to id with the naked eye. If I covered the labels on my breeder tanks You would not be able to tell the difference without the males in there. These are my fish and neither would I. Females look just too much alike. I have been breeding these for years and If I dont know the source I will not buy any. The main problem is that 1st generation hybrids usually look like 1 of the parent species so it may look right but still be hybrid. I had to destroy a whole group of fish because i introduced a new male that looked perfect but all three batches of his offspring turned out to be hybrids. These were Aul Ngara peacocks and the babies some of them were O.b. I mixed these babies in with 6 other batches before the defect showed up and had to kill off around 150 2" peacocks.
