Male peacocks will be most colorful in the presence of females. Without females present, the dominant male will show his colors, but not nearly as brightly as he will if he has some females to show off to.
I do not think that the only reason that your peacocks were bright when you you bought was because the guy you got them from was breeding them. You also need to take into thought that they might be alittle stressed being in your tank with those dempseys.
