Pearsie & Heterospilus growth thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

dan518 dan518 this is the beahvior I get bored with. This guy for the most part has the entire tank to himself. It's all bottom dwellers besides the heterospilus. He ignores the bichirs and the vulture is way too fast for him to even imagine messing with.

It's nothing serious but just enough to be annoying. I've been thinking about adding something from rapps stocklist but won't because I feel like anything bigger or close to his size would turn into really aggression and he'd probably get himself killed.

He doesn't look to bad with the het, but I know what you mean.
I think Andy woods has the right idea, alot of his tanks are solo males, no stress no aggression. When I set my other tank up next year I think I will do the same, solo male amphilophus spp of some kind.
Sometimes more cichlids will stop some of the aggression but it's always a role of the dice.

I've only had success crowding or doing solo. Occasionally you'll get a laid back male, but all mine have been majority douchebags. He didn't seem that bad though.

Sweet setup by the way. I like the polys down low and the big pearsei swimming middle/top

Thanks guys. Yeah it's nothing serious. But enough to tell me that if there were other cichlids like zonatus, argentea or something similar I would have issues. He's never been comm friendly but I had hopes that the larger tank would help. Funny though he did mellow out some but not nough lol

She's looking good, shame about the fins, are you just going to wait it out and see how it goes.

Well that looks like its escalating. Still not terrible, but hopefully she won't get to much more damage.

I'm gonna wait it out. It's not terrible but annoying I've never been one to tolerate aggression. The few times that I underestimated the signs I ended up with dead fish.

I mainly post this for others to see that sometimes tank size isn't the only deciding factor when thinking about stocking. All of the answers in response to "can these fish live together" need to be taken with a grain of salt.

duanes duanes reported seeing JD's defend a 4x4x4 territory.

Pearsei aren't killers so she should be able to avoid him for the most part. But long term the het won't remain in this tank
