peat moss?

I would like to know how many types of peat moss there is..
And
How much of peat moss do i need to add to my 30gal aquarium?
Is putting it in the pantyhose a good choice?
Do I have to put in the filter? Can I just leave it on the substrate?
Do I have to wash the new peat moss before I use it?

There is also one thing here..
It is written as "HORTI Moss peat is derived from partially decomposed sphagnum mosses"
Do I get the correct one?

1a) 150-350 species

2a) What are you trying to accomplish? Soften the water / lower the pH? & how much? This is a slow process.

3a) Yes

4a) No / Yes

5a) Just rinse well in tank or treated water to remove small particles and hydrate it so it sinks.

6a) Horti = Horticultural

6a1) Most probably, make sure there are no fertilizer additives in it.
