I dunno if its normal or anything but I just got back from my lfs and in one of the back tanks they had about an 18 inch gigas arapaima swimming around. i have never seen one in a fish store before and was wondering if anyone else has seen one being sold in theres or anything. Just confused me alittle lol.

yep some fish stores sell em what most stores dont do is they forget to mention itl reach 9 feet (im preety sure) and is not suitable for any aquarium unless its a johnptc sized tank or larger
ill admit there exeedingly rare to find but ive heard of them being sold jsut like every other fish on the market
i saw one once, i was pretty depressed the rest of the day because i knew that its chances of reaching adulthood were slim and none
I've seen pimas quite a few times in lfs. They are usually 8" and priced very high. I'd like to think if someone is going to spend a large sum of money, they'd know about how to keep it though.
i've never seen one in a store and i don't understand why a store would even order one to be sold, because there are only a few aquarist that would want one. i'd think that the market for aripaima is a very narrow one. how much was he asking for such a monster?
