Hi all, I've been checking up on these odd looking severums at my LFS for about 2 months now. When I first noticed them one was white with a red anal fin and the other two were ash grey. Today all are white like the one in this photo.

The manager says they're green sevs.
Any idea what they are?

i dont know im still sticking with stress, color fading is a big symptom of stress. Looks like the parrots could have picked on it because they seem bigger in the photo. I cant really see other fish in the tank but im assuming its them if you look horizontal to the eye where you sometimes see their lateral line you can see a battle scar. Im sure if you picked it up it would green up but the tank its in right now is just not suitable you can tell its bullied. He might grow and look healthy to us in terms of no fin rot or ich but its not happy.

Idk Joe, you may be right. I can't help but think otherwise though. As I mentioned before, there are 3 fish with the same coloration. They went from grey to white while retaining their red pigmentation. The anal fins are bright red and they have random red specks on their bodies.
Could this be something genetic? Anyone?
I'll see if I can get some better pictures up soon.

Difficult one to answer. It would have been useful to have seen a "before" pic of the grey ones.

There are some unusual colour morphs of sev out there, what with all the cross-breeding between strains that has been going on for decades. Sevs are also so widespread in nature that there are several different colour variants of the simple green severum anyway.

It's usually pretty obvious to spot if a sev is highly stressed by it's behaviour. Flowerpower, as you have actually seen them in the shop and are not picturing them as stressed fish, then your judgement is probably spot on.
The grey of two of the fish beforehand could have been stress colours though, which they have now lost, and lightened up as they have settled in.

Please do that sounds like a great idea but my opinion your gonna set good quality water opposed to the pet store and it will turn green. Ive seen sevs this color but only due to stress, if you do turn out gray i would be very surprised. The second pic looks like these guys are gonna have very nice faces, you can see the red spots and blue hue. I also come to another conclusion, maybe the store isnt offering a good food so the colors are not as nice due to diet. Some bloodworms and a good quality flake idk you might just come out with a very good looking sev. I love sevs very fascinated on the topic we have going. They definitely look like greens to me though. I live on Long island so if theyre at a store around here i will also buy one.
