You might be pushing the bioload on the 55, if you have a good filter I would say go with a royal. I have a ommon plec he's just a little over 15" and he is straining my 55 which has a 10x change over rate.

okay thanks will post a pic of the 3 + new royal (hope they are in stock, 3 left as of last weekend) this weekend

below are some pics of my 3 pleco setup (had to move my jar in there as am currently housing goldfish for my wife in the upper tank) - am getting the jar a new home sooner than i thought and leaving the bottom tank to the pleco soon.

apologies for the quality my phone cam is only 2mp's

I honestly wouldn't add any more to a 55gallon....that common pleco alone will get quite huge. (I have a 15 yr old common pleco "Scare" that is well over a 15" long right now and he's in my 80 gallon tank. I think you'd be pushing the bioload in your 55gallon with what you have now when your plecos reach adult size, so I wouldn't recommend adding another one, unless you upgrade to a larger tank. :)

well the pleco tank (top now) has been upgraded with some live plants and substrate... all three pleco's are doing well and like sinking pellets with the occasional squash mixed into it.

my jar died so the bottom one is waiting for a new centerfish.
