If possible, why not give her the tank temporarily and move the other inhabitants.
It sounds silly, I know- but hey! Give her the best chance of success while you learn the fish.

what I usually do is to put a plastic container (like a small box) into the water, catch the fish with a net (do it when she's asleep - super easy) and move it into the container, then take the container out. Fish never leaves the water. No struggling and and no spitting.
