pellet training wild orinos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He's eating for sure. Keep at it. Having other fish that already eat pellets is another great method. Keep up the good work!

As far as the worms go....When I get new baby cichla i like to try and never feed live. Out of all the juvie cichla ive raised orino's take to pellets the easiest.

I have a little 2 inch pac-man for an orino.

This guy just ate 2 1/2 hikari floating sticks. I don't know where he put it but he looks ready to pop and still looking for more.

He actually engulfed 3 sticks but puked out a half. Guess it would not fit.

Rapps sold me a winner for sure.

I'm glad I got this orino. At 2 inches it already has more personality than my kelberi did at 7 inches.

It begs now like my oscar when I go to the tank.

The oscar and orino are so gorged they look like puffer fish so their cut off for now.

So far the oscar and orino get along. The oscar has never showed any aggression at all.

My Oscar and Pbass have always gotten along fine. I also notice they both come to the top and do the feed me dance.

It took me about 2-3 weeks to get my Mono pellet trained. I feed him peas for a bit. Then started breaking up large hikari gold cichlid pellets and shoving them in the peas. Then once he got acclimated to snapping the peas with the hikari gold inside it off the surface of the water I would trick him and drop in some pellets. Initially he would snap it up and then spit it out when he realized I tricked him, but shortly after he started snapping them off the surface and not spitting them out. Now he's a pellet eating machine.

For now I will stick with hikari carn sticks then my ultimate goal will be to get all my fish exclusively on Hikari cichlid bio gold +.

I bought a new bag of bio gold just before my kelberi sold.

The orino did smack a bio gold pellet but spit it after 10 seconds. There is promise.

There is nothing wrong w/ the sticks. When he gets real big you can feed him massivore.

As far as I'm concerned the sticks are the bomb.

I just like the fact the bio gold has spurlina in it along with more vegatable matter.

From what I heard the bio gold it hikaris newest and best quality food they make.

I do have massivore and tried feeding it broken up into pieces. The orino does engulf it but spits it right back out.

He loves the sticks. He is a steady begger for them now. Matter of fact he just ate 2 more about 10 minutes ago.

I'm dialed in now when it comes to pellet trained.
