2-3" is too small to starve. I find it that datnoids prefer sinking to floating food. Also either stuff some sinking pellets in som frozen shrimp and eventually just start feeding them nothing but pellets. Or take some pellets and marinate them in shrimp juice.

but they are already sinking shrimp pellets, they already smell shrimpy. I will persist with the pellets for the next day or so if he doesnt take I`ll give him some bloodworm
SO hes completely ignoring the pellets. he doesnt even show interest in the bloodworm when its at the surface, it has to come down to him and he will dart out, take one tiny worm, back into the cave and repeat. is that normal? he comes to the front starring at me like hes begging for food the moment my hand goes anywhere near the tank to put food in hes darted back into his cave. This is my first ever dat so I don't really know exactly what is normal and what isnt. Hes eating feeders and bloodworm fine and has definately grown since I got him a few weeks ago so I suppose he is healthy.
My dat ignored food at the top also but when it floated down he would devour it. I dont think u need to worry about that. I got lucky with mine because one day he just started eating hikari sticks. Most people would tell u to starve it but i would wait till its a little bigger.
