This is an old thread? It can maybe still help people that may have a problem with pellet feeding. I found several of the following methods work:
Soak the pellet for a short time in a cup of aquarium water before offering it to your fish. This will presoften the pellet so fish can easily and immediately remove bits of food from the pellets.
Try a different brand/flavor of pellets. My bottom feeders and midrange fish that will forage on the bottom all like Wardley variety pack pellets. My Bichirs do not care for them so they get Aqueon Bottom Feeder Shrimp pellets which they eat with gusto as do their tankmates--large angelfish.
Another way to introduce fish to pellets is habituate pellets to them at a fairly early age.
