i got it to eat hikari cichlid pellates tonight. has to wait for them to soften up a bit before it will keep them down

Congrats! I was about to suggest Hikari Food Sticks - since they are a little softer than the pellets, but it looks like your problem is solved.

I feed mine hikari food stick....just break it into pieces before you feed or try soaking them for a few minutes in warm water. A varied diet is really a good idea...try to stick to freeze dried foods and pellets. I feed mine food sticks, FD shrimp,FD brine shrimp, crickets gut loaded with flake food and carrots, FD bloodworms. also try shaking a bit of spirulina powder with FD shrimp really good for them and if you got some $$$ try using astaxanthin powder as well.

Hikari Gold makes baby carnivore floating pellets, much easier to eat, or pre soak for 5 mins. on regular size pellets.
