PENGUIN 350B

has anyone had any issues with their penguin 350 b? I have 2 of them on my 55 gal. community tank and they are not doing to good of a job.my bio wheels keep gettting stuck. my water clarity is sort of there but not really. any tricks or mods ? i removed the carbon from the screens plus added aquaclear bio max bags.

I had that exact same model and the exact same problem. I bought new biowheels and when those did the same thing, I tried to modify them but it didn't work. I say buy an emperor. They have a seperate spraybar to turn the biowheel and you can buy them used for very cheap.

will adding a canister filter help in any way?

You could replace the penguin with a canister, the canister will probably do a far better job.

I would dump the filters you have and just get an AC110. That being said, run the AC110 concurrently until it has built up it's bio base of bacteria. I'd give it a couple of weeks.

What kind of fish are you keeping?

If you want to clear up water really quickly, use activated charcoal in the additional media baskets. I've got a Penguin 330 and it seems to be doing alright on my 38.

Get some AC's you are halfway there already. I had absolutely no issues with my filters. I had an AC mini running for over 10 years, only problem was the O ring dried out and I had to replace it.

2 blue rams
3 clown loaches
5 gold barbs
5 long fin tetras
9 zebra danios
2 sunset platties

thanks for the reply. I just placed an AC 110 on B/O to try it out. should be here in a few days i hope.
