PENGUIN 350B

Bio-wheel filters are the best as far as I'm concerned.

However they do have problems with the wheels not turning.

You have to be very meticulous about cleaning them. Make sure the filters are clean and take it apart and clean the impeller assembly. You'd be surprised how much gunk can collect. It reduces the amount of water flow to the point that the wheel doesn't turn.

Thanks for the reply. I clean the poly pads when i do the weekly waterchange or replace them if they are too used up. then once a month i tear them down and give the entire filter a good clean. am I waiting too long to clean it?

That sounds like a good schedule! The telltail is if the water volume is noticably greater and the wheel is spining faster afterwards.

I usually don't clean things until the wheel has almost stopped spinning. Afterwards it's spinning like crazy again!

This is on a Eclipse 3 hood and a Penguin 100. YMMV on other biowheel products.

AC110's all the way. I have three emperor 400's and three 110's. The AC's run much better. In fact I just ordered three more from DR. F and S to have for the future. Great price at 33.95

Thanks for the reply. I have an AC 110 on the way. when it gets here i know i have to run it with one of the penguins til it dvelops bacteria in it. after a few weeks should i completly eliminate the penguin and keep just the ac 110 running or should i order a second one?

here is the current set up
1 55 gallon tank
2 penguin 350 b HOB
30 LB of sand

fish:
1 common pleco
2 blue rams
3 clown loaches
5 gold barbs
5 long fin tetras
9 zebra danios
2 sunset platies

Just add it to the 55. Use one 350 and the 110. Should do the job.

Same here with my penguin. The bio- wheel is stuck eventhough my filter pads are still new and clean. So I bought a new bio wheel and it still the same problem. But my Hagen aquaclear is ok for so many years now. Next time i will always get but Hagen AC. I never have to spend on the foam media and biomax. Just need to clean it in old tank water. Unlike penguin or whisper which you have to buy the filter pads. Just my 2 cents.

My AC 110 has been running in the tank for 24 hrs now.

1. quiet:headbang2
2.alot more water movement plus the water flow is adjustable.

3. alot less particles floating in my water or bubbles.

so far im impressed:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2
