i got 2 350's and a 200. when i first bought them they were my sole filtration for an overstocked 90g, and they did an excellent job on keeping up with the bio load but would clog up every couple of days and the wheels would stop spinning. now they are used along with other filters for mech, with the penguins as mainly bio. since i have added other filters i have not cleaned my penguins at all for almost 2 years and they still keep on spinning.
one thing to look for on the penguins is sometimes the wheels will drag on the filter housing. taking a couple minutes and some trimming with a box cutter on the housing has solved this problem. any resistance at all on the wheels will stop them puppies.
my advise is if your penguins are regularly clogging up then you need other filtration to compliment the penguins. i also suggest using the supercartridges for them, they greatly increase bio capacity and allow for you to use replacement pads for much cheaper than the stock cartridges.
another reason i like my penguins is if i need to setup another tank and have it cycled instantly, i can just grab a wheel or two out of my currently running filters, and add em to the new tanks penguin.
