I own many Penquins, love them but operated them without the bio wheels because they slow down the flow. I can acheive more biofiltration by promoting stronger flow over the substrate than relying on tiny bio wheels. All HOBs manufacturers claim how wonderful and unique their bio filtration design is but it's just a marketing tactic.
