Yep, I thought that was way high, even with overseas shipping rates he will save money shopping around, or maybe get a better filter.
I am a certified Penn Plax Cascade Canister Rep. I actually went to a 2 hr. class when they first introduced the new line. They bought us lunch and gave us a framed certificate for completing the class.
They are really good canister filters. However, I found maintenance and buying replacement filter floss to be a pain in the ass and expensive. Eheim makes a much better product a lot of Cascade Canister filter tech. was ripped off of Eheim. That alone should tell you who knows what they're doing.

Where i live is a pennplax company.Everything they make is low quality.Filstar is not that good either.I can get an eheim ecco 2236 which can do a 90gal tank for 99dolarsplus tax.Go to Petswarehouse.com.
