Penn-Plax Cascade canister filters...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am pleased with my Cascades, although I think Eheim and Fluval make nicer stuff. Cascade is good for the price.

The deal-maker for me is that Cascades are a fraction of the price. I am going to look into Johnptc's Fx5's for $175. Thanks for all of the replies guys/gals. I really appreciate the honest input. It sounds like Cascades are pretty decent for the price.

the 1500 is what i use and it makes no noise at all o yea and the sray bar it comes with is quite nice

My 1000 is quiet and i've had no problems with it, but i realy needed the extra filtration that's why i added a FX5. And for the price john charges his price beat all the local pet shops up in seattle by $125.00 on that filter... Go FX5 you won't regret it.

Ya mine is silent, I dont know what the other guy was talking about. My powerhead is 10000 times louder

Rena's are a bit more popular but it's a more established line of filters. When push comes to shove...canister technology has improved so much in the last 6 years or so that it's really hard to buy anything thats a real POS. Some are better than others at certian things but they are all, with very few exceptions, reliable and long lasting if set up and maintained properly.

I have a cascade 1200 on my 90g and I like it.

I have like 5 rena xp3s. I think I'd pick a cascade over a rena because I like the design better, seems to hold more water and I think it's a little quieter, even though both brands work good for me.
I don't think I've used cascades enough to make a good review though.
