omg.. this is as bad as the ray forum.... no matter who you buy fish from its your own fault for buying crap... some fish cant even be IDd w/out dna testing... either spend your money on a fish you like.. or dont ... in the end a fish is only as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Period, who cares if joe schmoo thinks your fish is "lame" as long as you like it. are their dishonest business dealings out there? if you dont know this answer you have apparently lived under a large rock for an extensive period of time. getting ripped off is always a possability... in ever faucet of life, i always laugh when people are outraged someone ripped them off...

at the end of the day its your money and your call, and vendors particularly on mfk ive seen are make or break by good or bad reps. and some seem to get bad reps because some people expect everything on a silver platter. the rarer an animal or object is the harder it is to obtain it in optimal condition... and the optimal condition ones your going to pay for.

does it stink that people get hozed? yeah... but thats life, not just fishkeeping.
i totally agree with you

While sitting in front of my tank and pondering of being "had" i then began to wonder, what is your suggestion for the adoring public of mfk. I understand that not using "so called reputable dealers" is the point of the thread. And I agree that when money is involved love for fish or a reputation most likly wont stop a dealer from embeishing the truth. You only buy fish when seen in person wich is definately a safe call. Does this limit you to the available stock at nearby lfs and local breeders in New Orleans? If so have you spent time pondering in front of your own tank upon limitations and the things that could have been? I live in the biggest city in our fine country, were Im sure there are many more lfs, importers, wholesalers, and distributers than to your stated location and yet I still find that some breeds are unobtainable at the times that I would like them in my posession. This is not an assault on your location or you as a person. I just feel that touching upon the tpoic that you brought up is an intro to a larger statement, half of a two sided coin. You have raised attention to a problem. What comes after pondering, options for the enthusiast? Hopefully there is another side to this coin.
