We have wild horses down here too. Every so often the need arises to cull them as they are hugely damaging to the environment and they have no predators. Not only do they eat various rare plants, but they trample those they don't. The large herds also cause erosion. Inevitably a few people get all upset about it, but they don't seem to realise that these are not cute little ponies. They are quite honestly dirty, mangy, parasite ridden pests. They do offer them up for adoption for those who want them for god only knows what reason.

33,000 is a crapload of horses to try and rehome. Where are they meant to keep them while they wait to be adopted?

It's all well and good to love animals, and of course I do too, but the fact remains that there is no other realistic alternative. It's quite simple: 33,000 excess horses + nowhere public to move them + not enough people willing to adopt them = lots of dead horses.

THANK YOU! :grinno: thats exactly what im getting at, the horses they cull arent in good health or adoptable. they look like this when they catch them most of the time

i couldnt look at the picture. i would make me sick to my stomach...horses have been my life since i was little. mine are my babies. if anyone laid a finger on them in the wrong way i would kill the person myself. they are caring and compassionate and have their own feelings and personality of their own. i cant believe the things people will do to creatures that can feel and understand almost as much as humans... many animals are smarter than most people, but are we going to kill them?

I feel the same as you..and the picture above sickens me because most of the injuries occur during their capture..

yes.

read the whole thread holmes its about wild invasive horses that are bad for the native ecosystem

those pictures WERE NOT a result of capture. the face shot is done by stomach worm larva, the emaciated shot is from those stomach worms in the stomach as well as tapeworm and other disease. the leg is a bacterial infection of some kind.

i mean i do understand that in some places are horses are way over populated and the diseased and weak should be euthanised but people dont just put them down. it is a cruel game that they play to see how much torture an animal can take until finally passes on. i would be completely ok with the downsizing if people would do it humainly instead of taking them to slaughter houses and butchering them alive

they dont butcher them alive. dont listen to PETA, they are a terrorist organization, and the propiganda videos they put out not representative of the way animals are euthanized by the BLM. you want to see crewl treatment of animals that are actually healthy and adoptable (unlike the horses in question) then go to http://www.petakillsanimals.com/shockingphotos.cfm

i only bring up PETA because they are the ones who put out all those horse-slaughtering videos, so lets not go down the PETA road, theres alredy another thread for that

Oh my, those horsies need either help.. or euthanasia.. :( I see now what you were pointing. You should have talked about them clearer a while ago. i almost thought you were a jerk who just want 'em animals dead. :D these animals should be put to sleep without suffering. this same things happen to stray dogs in the Philippines. :(

I see we have the same enemy? PETA is a disgrace. Before i knew their crap, i liked them. But now, i am enlightened.

cheers,
JK

i'm outta here
