People - particularly party boat mates - who fillet fish alive

I club out the salmon we pull from Lake Michigan mostly for safety. Trying to cut a 30inch fish in three foot wave is chore enough without it flopping back. Never thought of it as the "humane" thing to do, just trying to keep all my fingers.
 
my thoughts, i don't see clubbing a fish any more humane then filleting them alive. Alot of these "party boats" (we call them charter fishing boats here) bring in massive amounts of fish at once and just a handful of people clean and package the entire boat's catch. The extra time needed to wack so many fish would be counterproductive. Either way, the fish just got yanked from his home and is ending up on your plate. not sure why it matters how it ends up o your plate once you've begun the nightmare.
 
What about shark finning, I think that is the worse case of animal abuse!!

They cut the dorsal, pectoral and caudal fins, then dump the poor sharks overboard.

they try to swim without the fins and they just sink.

Also, reading this forum I have to ask: Can a gutted fish still be breathing?

I dont think they're alive after all their organs are removed

I have never been on a boat that did this. They are usually thrown in a ice box and dead before the boat gets back to land. Seems like it would be a pain in the but to fillet a kicking fish any ways? And i wouldnt do it. And wouldnt like to c it. But again at the same time. We feed our fish live food and watch them rip it apart. And people feed there snakes live mice. And stuff like this so is it more torture to be falayed alive or be eaten alive. Im sure there will be mixed emotions on this. But at the end of the day us being fish keepers we feed live food to our own fish so what is the difference. Again i do not condone them doing that while there alive.
