People with cats..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you have a 20 ponder like mine don't bother. For the normal size cats (<12lbs) it works great, I used "Fresh Step" litter and tosed the litter tray every 2 or three fills. You can adjust the time between your cat using it and when it scoops so that the litter can fully clump.

My huge grey guy would always point his head to the back of the box and pee into the front. This would create a cement style mixture right where the litter meets the front edge of the pan. This would usually jam the blades. When he went to a sitter and we just had the two smaller cats it worked fine.

i dont get it - how do you train a large pim to use a litter tray
i have a 30 in rtc and i cant see it liking one of those in the tank.

LOL when my RTC, Guido, was big enough to get his own snacks from the fridge, we knew it was time for the litter box.

what I found to be the MOST effective is a box made from wood that is from Colorado ONLY. Then the sand used has to be sand from Mexico. Use these two in combonation and their will be no cat poop smell what so ever!!!

that and I don't have a cat so that helps too

I had one of the litter-maid ones for a while. we adjusted it to wait like 10 minutes after the cat went to sift, so never had any problems with it not being clumped up, but the little plastic bins are horrible, they don't hold very much. We had 2 cats and would have to change them every other day or so. We started using the same plastic bin, just lining it with a plastic bag from the grocery store, made it easy to change and didnt have to buy bins anymore. We had to go back to a traditional box after one of our cats started refusing to use it after it went off with him in the room, he jumped a good 5 feet.

I have the littermaid, whichever one they have at petsmart. I also reuse the cups, but if you take them outside and hose them off they're really not that bad. I use Tidy Cats multiple cat indoor litter, for it's small grain size and chemicals that neutralize the ammonia smell, it's still not perfect, you do need to use a lot less litter than you usually would, only fill it to the fill line and rake it back flat if you notice your cat pushed it all to one side, but really for me with my one cat it works fine. If you have 2,3, or 8 cats, or one 20 pound cat, you're asking for headaches.

Never used one, when we had our max number of cats we were at 9(with a litter or five on top) and 2 litter trays would need cleaning twice a week, a ten minute a week task. We have many field to the back which are a natural litter tray but even now we are down to six older cats(sleep and stay in more) and they take no more cleaning.

To me it seems like a product that has been designed for a solution that isn't needed.

Just my 2 cents

thanks for the info. seems to be the common opinion across the boards, the technology isn't quite there yet, especially for the big cats...
