pepering on my discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a black background and switched to white. Even built a new overflow box... It makes a difference... but it certainly isn't magic. I even switched out from fluorite to light colored substrate...

During the rebuild I put all the fish in a tank half the size that was barebottom and much of the peppering went away. Unfortunately, just having some dark driftwood can still cause peppering. The wood is the only thing dark in the tank and the peppering partially came back on some of them. So... barebottom is probably the only way to go with pidgeonbloods unless its a super high quality strain if you dont want peppering.

By the way, spawning can also induce peppering. I have a few that were great, even with a dark background, until they paired off and spawned.
