OK im not totally positive its a perch but i picked up what i think to be a perch from my store.....(i work at a Petco) It was in my feeder tank with the rosy red minnows.... i noticed him and took him home.......he has cichlid markings on his cheeks and is a bronze-gold colour.....unfortunatly i dont have any pics but i just wanna know, how large a tank would it require if it is a perch? would it need a heater? thanks for the help all!

Could be a perch, but my guess is it is going to trun out to be a green sunfish. These are the most common comtaminants in feeder shipments. When you say cichlid marking the the cheeks, i'm assuming that you mean worming that is green to light blue in color. As far as I know, perch don't have the worming. For your green sunfish (if that is what it is), you do not need a heater, and a 40-55 gallon tank will be great home for life.

If it is a greenie, you can expect it to get to about 8-10 inches in a proper setup. They are pretty agro and will eat anything that can fit in their mouths, and they have a huge mouth.

there is 2 possibilities either a yellow perch of a green sunfish by your description. both get to be bout 7-12 inches and require around a 40 gallon or bigger tank. i hope i helped :)

After viewing pics of both the yellow perch and the green sunfish im positive its a green sunfish! Unless as juvies the perch doesnt have the stripes until adult age? all i need to know is what to feed him tho......

He should take any appropriately-sized live food or frozen bloodworms. They will usually take pellets readily as well; I use Tetracichlid pellets with my sunfish.

If he is a baby, hold off on the pellets. Feed FD hikari or omega one krill.

I have two greenies....they love bloodworms, when they get bigger give them crickets as a treat....theyll go nuts
