Perch

Just the lake across the street, the pictures are sort of crappy quality and the fish were stressed from moving them around, you can sort of see their stripes but they were faded when they were calm you could more see their stripes and they also had two top dorsil fins so thats were I got the notion of perch from. http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/images/perchyellowthurlowhornsby.jpg <- is of a more mature one, mine werent nearly as big.

If it was a native killifish i'd be really happy and pissed I let em go lol.

The pics you took show the fish to only have one dorsal fin placed way back on the body while the link to the perch you posted has two dorsal fin segments (first spiny, second soft) placed midway on the body. I'm almost positive they were some type of killie but it's hard to say for certain without better pics and the state/town location.

alright, well either just two, or one of the three had two top dorsils, but i'm confident in seeing it. I cant get better pic's cause they are gone, and thats the best i could take.
I live in canada so the state and town location wouldnt do you much good.

They look like banded killfish to me. I once confused them for perch awhile back.
