It has really degraded significantly, especially in California.Just curious PB, in your opinion what would be the solution to this problem?

I remember being in class a couple years ago (I am only 20.. ) and our "new" teacher that had just started in our science class, had taught english previously.... so of course the teacher screwed everything up and had no idea what she was talking about..
I find most teachers in my area go by the book with the kids... And lack even a general idea of what the subject is about.. They teach what the book says... so what is the point of their job? just give the kids a book and be done with it!! *shakes head*
The subjects are complete crap aswell. WHY do we have an ENTIRE semester of shakespeare, when we spend only 20 mins on the roman empire?......
OR... we have a class specifically for BLACK history.... and we never even ONCE talk about the Celtic migration, or Germanic migration in our normal "world history" class...
Kids are taught people such as MalcolmX, M.L. King jr, Columbus, Abe Lincoln, were Heros... And that they did no wrong and were friends to all humanity.... (what a bunch of crap)
They teach that the war of independence was based on the colonists wanting to be "free"... instead of being greedy and selfish.
I do however enjoy the math classes. I believe the general math and even the advanced math is great for kids, even though they contest and suggest "I will never use this crap in the future". THe point is, practicing difficult math is good for the brain. It will create a more complex thought process. Although I feel they should teach a more advanced math at a younger age. I think the asian cultures are right on with this.
THe science classes are a bunch of crap too. The teachers are just poor when it comes to knowledge. My highschool had 5 Science teachers, I used to meet with them after school to help them set up fishtanks for lab projects... and I was amazed how uneducated they were when it came to aquatic ecosystems. They had no idea what Nitrifying bacteria were!! WHAT THE HELL?
PE classes.... HAH.. what a damn joke. you get graded on your performance!! WHAT THE **** DUDE? I was 250lbs... a serious fat-ass... I was given an F because I couldnt run the mile in under 10 mins... or do even 1 pull up. I was given an F because my physical ability was not up to par with what the teacher wanted..... Yet I was 123123 times smarter than any kid in the ****ing school, I was still given an F because I couldnt run fast, even though I busted my ass to get around that track and suffered much more heartache than the skinny kids blowing by me. I was still awarded an F. THey should grade on heart... Whether you push yourself hard instead of slacking... not if you can do something under a certain time.
I also LOVED (not really) their health class!!! Jesus... what a load of crap. THey basically told you to eat healthy.... they didnt actually tell you what eating healthy was, just "stay away from fat and eat more greens!" Well, that is fantastic! so instead of eating a steak or a peice of chicken that has a little fat on it, I should eat a zuccinii.... Idiots. "Dont forget to drink 8 glasses of water!" suck it *****! Get this, they never once mentioned a vitamin supliment!!! LOOOOLLLL wtf.
The worst of all, I would have to say was english class... I really hated that class, and im sure many of you could/can tell... espeically back 3-4 years ago when my spelling was extremely horrid. The teachers made us read STUPID books, and write little book reports... Tell me, what is the point of this? Why cant I read a long blog online about a political issue and give my opinion on that? THe **** they give the kids to read is stupid, and not well thought out. Book reports are rediculous and a waste of time. They need to focus more on how to write a paper correctly, how to SPEAK correctly, and how to DEBATE. That should be the biggest thing taught in "english"... How to debate with perfect speach. My skills in debating have gotten me quite far and I have learned alot because I was driven to read everything possible that related to my side of the battle. Debating is one of the most important skills anyone can have- How to keep your end of an argument solid and flawless.
HAHA- I just remembered a stupid thing we did for 2 weaks.... "JOB SEARCH"... This stupid project was issued to us kids and we had to pick a job/career that we would fit best in.... Mind you this was IN THE 8th GRADE...... not the 12th... no... this was when we kids were 14-15!!!! Sorry teachers, you stupid idiots, but 14 year olds are changing EVERY SINGLE DAY... so its useless to try and get them to pick a job that would best fit their personality..... why? because tomorrow, they will change! and be some one different! Once those shoes go out of fassion, they are going to not think the way they did when they were in fassion! Anyways, I took their stupid computer multiple choice testings and guess what my "Perfect" job was...... a Meter Reader... yes, thats right... I am that ******* that comes to shut off your power when you forget to pay your bill.... WHAT THE ****?
Lunch- school lunch is so horrible for you... Not 1 thing is healthy in the school lunch-room.... Completely contradicts Health class now doesnt it! yes it does, those idiots.
I loved how in that black history class, whites where/ARE portrayed as evil people for enslaving the blacks.... LOL... They make it sound like the USA/white americans were the only people in the world to employ the slave trade... We never ever went into the subject of slavery!@!@!@ Only that, white people are bad for enslaving blacks, and black people should get extra respect. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!! I... LOVE... Affirmative action...
I wonder why we were never taught anything about the spanish Conquistador and their complete genocide of the 25,000,000 native americans found in mexico and throughout north SA. That would have been a REAL subject. How Christopher C, managed to set an example for the rest of the spanish Killers. Ever read some of CC's journals? they are quite foul.
We also had this day devoted to accepting people of other beliefs, such as homosexualtiy. "You should accept people for being different!!! because if everyone was the same, life would be boring!" - what a great motto!! NOT. I love how they tell you to accept people, for example homos, but they never even TOUCHED the subject of homosexualtiy and why it should be accepted. The truth is, Homosexualy has been around since antiquity, and was practiced MORE in the classical (greek/roman) days than even now! It was not looked at with this moral "BS" as it is today, thanks to the church. I am not a homo, so dont get me wrong here. THe point is the greatest civilizations in history were very pro-homosexual. The Greeks, the ROmans, Mayans, the Samurai, Celts, Virtually ever civilization, even egypt. Unfortunatly the 3 Abrahamic religions sprung about, especially christianity, and banned the practice because it was a huge part of the "pagan" religions that competed with the NEW religions. Guess what? Julius Caesar, and even Alexander the Great practiced pederasty!!
It really upsets me that schools tell kids to think a certain way without giving them correct information to back up that thought process. "You should love all races! Hating them is wrong! Having pride in your race, if you are white, is RACIST! You need to Love everyone!" THats all well and good, but when asked "why" they reply with "BECAUSE YOU NEED TO". Instead of explaining that acceptence is better for society and civilization as a whole.
I think the teachings of school are too tied up with religion. "RIght" and "Wrong" should NEVER touch school... But Rather the words "Incorrect" and "correct".

WHat should be done? simple.
-No religion in school. (unless of course you want a society that is of a single culture)
-Teachers need PH.Ds and a huge salary. As well as an extremely difficult testing system to ensure only the best are fit for the job.
-NO home work. Kids need to be kids.. Sticking 5 hours of homework added to their 8 hours of school is STUPID and not efficient.
-Subjects need to be current and up-to-date with modern science. no OLD books, and no books written by less than 10 PH.D holders. Nothing pisses me off more than a text book that obviously has a right or left wing opinion working its way through the text.
-Kids who want to drop out of school, are allowed to early on... There is no reason for a stupid idiot to hold the class back because he wants attention.
- Shakespeare should not be touched unless requested by a certain class of students.
- There needs to be classes geared more towards learning real life things such as how to manage your money, how to eat healthy, how to use credit effectively, ect ect.
Do you get what im getting at? Kids need to have the tools to gain knowledge... modern public schools dont offer this. they offer crap like "YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS... BECAUSE I SAID SO".
public schools need to work more like a college.
HAH! oh, I almost forgot- Sex-Ed. WHat a stupid subject. however I like the idea of teaching the biology of the human body and its functions.. but not the concept of telling kids having sex is "bad"... They should educate kids on how sex works, common problems, ways to keep safe, ect ect... not "you should not have sex at this time... it is wrong to do this..." Kids should be treated like adults if they are to grow into true adults. Nothing is wrong with a 14 year old having sex with her 16 year old BF.. Just make sure they do it SAFE.. encourage kids to have SAFE sex, and that they must do their part in keeping STDs down. Also, They should talk about abortion, and what it is. WITHOUT taking ANY SIDE to whether its right or wrong.
SCHOOLS NEED A NEUTRAL STANDPOINT. Taking sides is very incorrect and detrimental to society.
I spent 13 years in school.... 13 YEARs... I have spent more time in school, than not!! I have learned more, in these last 2 years of being out of school, than my entire 13 years. That goes to show you just how poor the system is.
