I have been all around the hobby, different tanks, fish, etc. I am limiting myself right now due to many reasons to a 40g standard breeder tank. I am wondering what everyones opinions are for the perfect fish to have in this tank where I will not have to worry about them outgrowing the enclosure.

give me some ideas, I currently have a female blackbelt in there that is great, dont know if the tank will prove to be too small.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but even just that one black belt will outgrow the tank. Females reach a foot easy.

betta, goldfish, rosiered minnows, guppies, neon tetra..
or
angelfish, corys, zebra danios, ghost glass catfish, silver dollars.

or those tiny pufferfish they sell sometimes..i forgot what their called.

okay i would get ridof the shark!!!!!

if u want a preditor get a redfined wolf fish.

if u want community i would get a school of tiger barbs and maybe a few redtail sharks

other ideas are a planted discuss/angle tank\

BREEDING
- Rams
- Angels
- aspistos
- kribs
- jewels
- firemouths
- convicts

SCHOOLS
- rummynose tetras
- cardinal tetras
- rosy barbs
- columbian tetras
- serpae tetras
- emperor tetras

THEME TANK
- small africans
- reef tank
- planted tank
- rainbow fish tank

CLEANERS
- use a clown loach and a clown pleco as ur clean up crew
- school of cory's as the clean up crew

Go with a small breeding group of Jewel's...
Best bang for the buck IMO in a 40 breeder.

I wouldn't go for the clown loach, as they get over a foot, and bulky too

And fare better in shoals.

To answer that question we need to know what kind of setup you want. Do you want a large single fish? Do you want a community? Do you want to breed something?
As for the blackbelt, I'm afraid she won't work in there by herself, let alone with tankmates.

2 or 3 figure 8 puffers
or
Butis Butis
or
3-4... hell make it 10 nandus nandus

Then go and find a bunch of peaceful tankmates and a good pleco and your all set.

How could you choose a single clown loach and clown plec for the clean up crew?

If I was you, and you had the funds, turn it into a planted community.
