i forget what company makes it but they sell a set thats interesting. its a y pipe(or 2) that u weld in. in it, it has baffles. with a remote switch u flip it and it flips to flow down one pipe. flip it and it goes to another pipe. flow one threw ur stock exuast. run the other through a loud but performance based exaust(cant spell :( ) or just end it there :headbang2

You're thinking of an electric cutout. It flows through one side closed, then open it flows out both. The closed side can have a loud muffler or no muffler at all. :naughty:

:D
that would be awesome

Thats what alot of racers do, one side is a muffler, the other is open to air. They drive to the track with it closed, then open it for no restriction at all. :D

I'm the opposite. I go for the loudest exhaust I can find. I love to hear the engine/exhaust sound of a poweful engine. :D

I go for the loudest exhaust too. I feel a sports car should sound how it should. LOUD! I remember you telling me in one of my thread that you had a 2003 g35 sedan. Did you put on a new exhaust? If so what kind? :)

After the cat? :screwy:

I almost always use Magnaflow. They're not the quietest, but you can always add a resonator or backwards glasspack. Having a turbo helps, too :D My Camaro has a Hooker AeroChamber and it's pretty damn quiet.

I just found that on google. Kind of pointless to put it after the cat, or to even have a cat. :grinno:

Depends on your motor set up. Not enough back pressure can cause a loss of hp / tq as well. I run high flow cats on the race car, and factory cats on the street car. Still make plenty of power.

Typically with mufflers, sound is killed by putting obstructions in the way of airflow /soundwaves - meaning loss of power. You'll have to find a happy middle ground. I run a split case (more or less a 2 chamber) on the race car. Loud as crap. I like having a toned down street car.

I am trying to find a cheap twister resonator right now, my glasspack rattles and is crap anyways, it has gotten louder since installed less than a year ago. Glasspacks belong on a hotrod, not on a daily driver, Chevette included. A Twister stye muffle has half the flow going through the middle smaller pipe, then directs the other half of flow around the middle, the sound waves hit at 180 out of phase and reduces sound without reducing flow. About 5db as the MFR suggests.

Go factory to the muffler and put a slightly bigger muffler than stock, MAYBE you'll get 70HP outa that 4 banger...

BTW Restrictions are restrictions, increased torque by restriction will also hurt fuel mileage and overall HP(revability too). Tune it with EFI tweeks or carb adjustment, not by restricting flow. Especially on a street car.

It's being done right now as I type this. I just went with factory specs. Cat was messed up too, so a whole new exhaust system is being done.
