If you like the large Pim looks and behavior, you could look into the genus of Aguarunichthys - very special and underrated fish that's full of personality and is available in the trade (not super rare) http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=203#2116

Or comb through the family of Heptapteridae - Pim-looking cats: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/family.php?family_id=30

Of these, Rhamdia quelen http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=872 is fun to own IME.

Short Bodied RTC, all the great look of the regular RTC but only gets 18", a little on the pricy side though.
 
Hoplo catfish! The 2 I have are always swimming around looking for food. They only get to 8" max too so you could get a small school of them.

I have some feather fin cats and they look real cool but they prefer to lurk in the shadows.
