Personal "revision" of the Auchenoglanis giraffe catfish genus recognizes 5 species in the trade

Thank you. That's what I thought you might have thought.

I can only tell you what I think. None of g-cats I've reviewed possess small black spots roughly lined up in the fins, esp. the caudal except for biscutatus. Moreover, if you look over the biscutatus pics I show in my video, you'll note a variation in the body spots colors, shapes, sizes and patterns while I believe they are all biscutatus.

Thanks for taking the time to show all those examples. I will default to your judgment and see how it goes as my group of biscatatus matures. The 2 larger ones are about 6 inches and will be going in a 210 soon.

Thank you. I'd beg to differ. This chap looks close to many photos of others who I assigned with A. wittei. Wittei seem a bit variable and this particular coloration may also be an indication of a certain mood. Update on 2 of my biscutus that have been in a 210 now for over 6 months. Size wise they have filled out with one around 7 inches and the other 8 or 9. When they were juveniles they were very shy, but they are now quite boisterous during feeding time and fight for scraps alongside everything else. I'm still keeping the smaller one which is still at 4 or 5 inches in a grow out tank but I'm sure it could go into the 210 at some point. Only issue I have had in the 210 is some tissue damage where one of my large bichers took a snap at one of them. My large endli is notorious for that as it is very food protective.

One story comes to mind and is that of Jaws7777 where allegedly his bichir(s) bit his jaguar catfish leaving nasty wounds, so, yeah, I'd keep this in mind.

I still like to visit this thread and watch the PowerPoint from time to time. Just excellent work. My biscutatis count is now up to 5 without much growth. I have them split up in different tanks as they have a hard time competing in my larger tanks for food. I did finally luck out with a Congo for my show tank a few years ago. I have never had a fish eat as much food.

I was picking up a different fish from an importer about a week ago, and he got this thrown in as a single fish with a bunch of other African imports. Of course I took it off his hands. Maybe a Bouche???
